Our Costa Rica Adventure – March and April 2012

Costa Rica is the original adventure travel country, but now it’s got a lot of competition from the rest of the world.

How does it stack up? You can see see for yourself on our 12 day trip to the Gold Coast, the land of the Ticos – Costa Rica!

Check out the gallery of pics at the bottom – our best from the trip.

Day One:  Washington D.C. to Uvita:  The journey begins and we head straight to the beach for surfing with Bodhi Surf Camp. Crocodiles and jungle swimming holes add some excitement.

Day Two:: Uvita and the Ballena Marine Park: More surfing is on the menu today, but first we explore the beautiful and deserted coastline of Ballena National Marine Park and its beach.

Day Three: An ATV tour and more surfing in Uvita:  Lily has a wild day.   She spots a sloth on the road on our ATV tour, jumps off a 15 foot cliff into a waterhole and gets her head sliced up while surfing.

Day Four-Five: Family adventure in the Corcovado Jungle:  We’ve been to a lot of jungle including the Amazon, and Corcovado is the best by far for animal spotting.  Put this on your bucket list.

Day Six: Animal babies and leaving Corcovado National Park:  So many more animal sightings especially babies in the park.  We head back to civilization with hundreds of bug bites.

Day Seven-Eight: Leaving the Osa Peninsula and arriving in the Arenal region:  From the sweaty jungle we go to the cooler mountains of the Arenal Volcano region.  Trish gets in a fight with a monkey.

Day Nine: The family loves Arenal for zip-lines and hot springs:  The La Fortuna / Arenal Volcano area is covered in zip-line outfits and hot springs resorts.   We enjoy both until our rental car breaks down.

Day Ten: White water rafting on the Rio Balsa for the whole family:  Our first white water trip as a family is a bunch of fun on a nice and easy 2-3 river.  And of course more hot springs.

Day Eleven and Twelve:  The amazing last day of Costa Rica with strong horses and gentile winds to power us around the Arenal region country side.
